Welcome to the Waste Electrical
and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) National Working Group Website.
The WEEE National Working Group is a sub-group of the AUPO
CSR and Sustainability Group.
The National Working Group (WEEE) is a nationally coordinated group
comprising procurement and user expertise drawn from members of
all seven regional purchasing consortia, plus the Research Council.
The initial activity is to project the HE Purchasing community perspective
on the WEEE Directive and the ROHS Directive by participating in
the DTI consultation process ahead of the forthcoming legislation.
Future activities will include the provision of guidance to the
sector on the implications and exploration of the issues with suppliers
and HE colleagues.
The
WEEE Directive
The
purpose of this Directive is “as a first priority, the prevention
of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), and in addition,
the reuse, recycling, and other forms of recovery of such wastes
so as to reduce the disposal of waste. It also seeks to improve
the environmental performance of all operators involved in the life
cycle of electrical and electronic equipment"
